My Thoughts: Jon Gosselin

Jon Gosselin. Jon from Jon and Kate Plus 8. Mr. Ihavenoballs. You have heard of him. You have watched his show. And now you shall watch his life crumble.

(picture above is from a college party Jon went to, where he reportedly got drunk and tried to make out with college girls).

While Kate Gosselin was across the country promoting the book she didn't really write, Jon was partying with females in a bar near his house in Wernersville, PA and letting them drive his fancy new car that his children's lack of privacy bought for him.

Jon was caught leaving the bar drunk, with one woman, who he referred to as "babe". Supposedly he was seen passionately kissing this same woman on the same night in a hotel corridor by a security guard.

I wasn't there so I don't know if he was cheating, but pictures don't lie. He was out that late and he left with the mystery woman.

Cheating is gross. It's disrespectful. There is never an excuse to cheat. Around the internets, a lot of people are siding with Jon, saying that Kate deserves to be cheated on because of how bitchy and demanding and rude she is to Jon. While I agree that her personality is not desirable, I don't think she deserves to be cheated on. I also don't think those 8 precious kids deserve to have a daddy who parties and cheats on their mommy who is never home and won't let them eat cupcakes on their birthday.

Needless to say... I think it's time to dim the lights on that stage. What's happening to that family is not pretty and is only getting worse. The adults in the situation need to end this selfish charade and take care of the kids they claim to have wanted so badly in the first place.

Stepping away now... I could go on and on and on and on....

I Think I Quit.

Welcome!

My new look is courtesy of Julie. She did an excellent job yet again. Please check out her design blog, Julie's Blog Designs. She has tons of blog kits to choose from and she does a wonderful job making everything just the way you want it to be. Thanks again, Julie!!

After choosing to end my diaper cake business and deciding to simply concentrate on blogging/writing, I thought it was a good opportunity to make a few changes. More Than a Mommyblog was a great name in my opinion, but just wasn't what I wanted anymore.

Like I said a few posts ago, I am simply ready for some changes around here. A new name, a new look, and in the next few days once the darn servers update, a new domain. Once I switch the domain over, this blog address will be www.dirtandlace.com. From my understanding, that will not affect the followers, and anyone who has this blog in their favorites as the old url, or types in the old url, will be forwarded here.

I have a blog button! Please feel free to grab it for your blog! At the moment it will not direct you here when you click on it, but once I switch to the new domain it will work just fine.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Cellulite is like a freckle.

If you are a woman, you have... cellulite. Woman = cellulite = every woman has cellulite = it is normal = we shouldn't worry about having it.

Got it?

Cellulite is as common as skin.

You have it, I have it, your mom has it.

It's probably not going anywhere. There are tons of "treatments" out there, yet none of them reeeeally work.

Let's all see cellulite like we see freckles. Normal and common and simply THERE. Come on, fellow women. I just want to stop worrying about it and I want to know that you all are with me.

I'm going to go put on some shorts and not stare at the back of my legs in the mirror. You should all do the same.

House Remodel, Week 5.5

Today, my mom watched the girls, and Joe, his dad (Summer and Camryn's Papaw), and I went to the new house to work. Joe and his dad started on the exterior yesterday. The trim and facial boards were falling off and partly rotten, so they had to replace them. They were going to nail the existing gutters back up, but when they got them down, they saw that they were in bad shape, so they replaced them, too. I thought gutters were expensive, but really it's the labor involved in installing them when you pay someone to do it that costs so much. We bought gutters at Home Depot for $4/10 feet sections.

We do not like the color of the trim on the house at all. It is a weird brown color, and does not go with the brick. We spent some time looking at paint last week and decided on an olive greenish color.

Yesterday was demo day for the stuff that they were going to replace. Today they put the new trim, facial boards, and gutters on. They only did the large section on the front, where the majority of the bad wood was. They'll work on the rest of the front in the next few days, and do the back after that.

The ugliest part about the front of the house: the porch.

There is a layer of dust on the boards right now because they were sitting in the house while we were sanding drywall, so it's kind of hard to tell the actual color of the trim at this point.

Our fireplace is HUGE, as you have seen. It's 20 feet long if I recall correctly. When we bought the house, there was wood paneling above it, and a mantle that was basically a rough piece of lumber, painted brown. We tore out the wood paneling, and removed the old mantle. I checked prices of mantles, and was shocked that a piece of wood could cost $600. I didn't think it made sense to pay that much when we could make one ourselves. When we were on a shopping spree a couple weeks ago, we came across a huge piece of wood. I forget the exact term for what it is. They said that it had been sold, and we could special order one for $100. It was the exact size we needed, so we did that. It arrived a few days ago, so today while Joe and Joe Sr. were working outside, I sanded and stained our new mantle. I think it is going to look beautiful.

Today while we were shopping for gutters and stain, we also got a handrail for the basement stairs. The old one had a couple layers of chipped paint and had seen better days. I stained the new handrail the same stain as the mantle. I love this dark wood!

So, we had a productive day today! With all that is going on this month, we really have to make use of our time. Not only is it Derby week and there are tons of festivities, my parents always host the Derby party for all of our family and friends. It's a really fun, all-day event. So, we won't have any time next Saturday to work on the house. Also, May is the absolute busiest month every year. My dad's birthday, my uncle Mike's birthday (50th this year!), a couple cousins' birthdays, my cousin Richard's confimartion, graduations and parties, Mother's Day, you name it, it happens this month. On top of all that, we are being pressured to get out of the house we are living in as fast as we can.

Poor Camryn has a cold. It's a bad one, with a yucky cough. If it doesn't clear up by Monday, I'll have to take her to the doctor. I felt her chest rumble a bit when she was breathing earlier, so it's better safe than sorry. No fever yet so far, so that's a good thing. I'm really hoping Summer doesn't get it as well, but that's kind of inevitable.

Joe is waking up in about 3 hours to go fishing with my dad. Crazy, I tell ya. I swore I would never be a fishing widow like my mom, but here I am.

I'm going to leave you all with some homework. Please, someone, tell me what this tree is!!!

It's the tree that is in our front yard. If you click on the picture, you can see the leaves. They are a really weird shape, I've never seen anything like it before. I'd like to know what it is so that I know how big it gets and everything. We're going to plant a second tree and I want them to look nice next to each other. If I wasn't so tired, I would offer whoever tells me what the tree is a prize, but you'll have to settle for some blog recognition :-)

I know I should have known better...

This was the first time, but certainly not the last time, that Camryn has had something stuck in her hair. Obviously, it's not a good idea to let toddlers play with things such as Flarp.

Before:

After:

It certainly could have been worse. She only has a tiny bald spot!

It's a Baby!

Some of you probably remember me talking about my friend, Audrey. She even made a blog awhile back, which she has been neglecting :-) Her pregnancy has been going well. Yesterday was her ultrasound, at 21 weeks. She found out that she is having a...

.......girl!!!! I'm excited. Having a boy around would be great, but I think it will be even better for Summer and Camryn to have a playmate to have sleepovers with and everything. Also, Audrey asked Joe and I to be the baby's Godparents! We're honored and happy that she thinks that highly of us. The baby's dad is a horrible piece of crap IMO, so she will definitely need someone to look up to, to know what a dad is supposed to be like. Joe's got his work cut out for him with all these girls!

“There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction” - Winston Churchill

Summer Grace Baby Cakes
has certainly been a labor of love. I have always wanted to have my own business, and love to find outlets for creativity. I came up with the concept and ran with it. I learned a lot in the process. I am pleased with the website I created, and am proud of myself for following through and doing it. It was a success and so worth it.

With that said... I will be closing down the site in a week or so. While it has been fun, I don't think it's the right path for me. The cakes are so expensive to put together that I barely make my money back when they are sold. Plus, they don't sell as fast as I was hoping. I've got quite a few just sitting in my basement.

I know that starting your own business is not easy, and things take time, but even with that in mind, I feel that it's time to try something else. Like my mom said earlier, the things that I learned throughout this process are invaluable and may be the very things that help me achieve something great some day.

I am currently selling all my cakes that have already been made for $25 each in a closeout sale. If you need a baby shower gift, go grab one. If you see one that you like but want more added to it or something changed, let me know.

This door may be closing, but at some point in the near future I will be doing something else. I have some ideas rolling around in my head, so we will see what happens!

For now, I'm going to concentrate on my blog. It's going to be getting a makeover, a new name, and its own domain in the next week or two. While the content will mostly remain the same (kids, kids, pets, husband, house, kids) I will also be writing about other things that I feel strongly about or want to share.

Anyway, I just wanted to share all that with you guys, and thank you for supporting me in my diaper cake venture. Everyone who put the Summer Grace button on your blogs, I really appreciate it! Stick around and enjoy the changes to come. Have a great night!

Thunder Over Louisville 2009

This Saturday was Thunder Over Louisville. Thunder kicks off the Derby festival every year. I'm sure you all know about the Derby. It's definitely the best time of year to be living here. Everyone is in great spirits, the city looks beautiful, and there is so much to do! At Thunder, there is an airshow from 3-9ish, and then the biggest firework show ever from 9:30-10:00pm. Thousands gather to watch. This year there was reportedly almost 800,000 people. The weather was perfect. My friends got there early and got a great spot on the Great Lawn, right by the river. Summer and Camryn had a great time coloring and playing, and eating all the snacks we brought.

their new princess tent. there is a "no tent" rule at Thunder, but this one is tiny and gave them a place to play out of the sun.

I look a bit crazy in this picture, but it's the only one we got of the 4 of us

after the show. they were exhausted after a long day.

Here is a video I took of the countdown to the fireworks, and the beginning of the show.

It was so much fun, as usual. This was the first time we took the girls with us. They seemed to really like it so it was definitely worth bringing them.

The next few weeks will be packed with things to do around town. We're going to be busy with the house, but I'm hoping we can get out and do some stuff.

Time to get the girls down for a nap so I can finish up the laundry. Have a great Monday!

All the Cool Kids are Doing It

I have wanted to Vlog for a long time. I finally decided to do one after seeing Brandi's and Brittany's vlogs. Please excuse my (and Summer's!) messy hair and non-make-up'ed face. And I apologize for all the "uh's" and "umm's".

Remodel progress... and some blood?

We took Easter plus yesterday off from working on the house. This evening, Joe went straight there from work and I dropped Summer and Camryn off at my parents' house and headed over, too.

I put a lot of the light switch covers and outlet covers on. I love the one I found for the girls' room, it matches perfectly.

The house is in a shambles right now.. but you can see the fireplace with the new paint. I think it matches nicely. That brick is an odd combination but the neutral tan looks great against it.

Here's the kitchen. We almost have it ready to have the flooring put in.

From the back corner of the dining area.

Front entryway.

Here's some basement pictures, I don't think I've shared any yet. This is the laundry room:

Dividing wall that makes a separate room.

This is the smaller storage area off of the laundry room.

The main thing we worked on today was the half-bath. We got a new vanity/counter-top, faucet, and light fixture. We didn't get as far as we would have liked, but we made progress. Here's the medicine cabinet. It came with the house. They did have it just hanging up there but Joe cut out the drywall behind it and now it's in the wall. I think it looks great!

Something I wanted to do today but we didn't get to... switching the porch light. The one that's out there is gold and outdated, and reminds me of apartment living. I found this one at the store and I can't wait to see how it changes the look of the house.

Here is our dungeon.

It is a large unfinished part of the basement. This past weekend, we noticed mysterious red liquid splattered on the walls. If that isn't high velocity blood spatter, what is it?! Yes I know, it's not likely that someone shot someone else in the basement and then just left it there, but it has us puzzled. (And me a little freaked out.)

I wanted to write more in this post instead of just talking about the pictures, but I am wayyyy too tired. Have a great night!
