Joining the Ranks

I reached a milestone this morning. It it commonly referred to as "Moms who clean up chunky puke at 5:30AM". Mine has an addendum of "after going to bed at 3:00AM" as well.

Summer has apparently reached chunky puking age. She started crying at her door around 4:30, and I went in and tucked her back in. She gets up like that sometimes, and it's usually no big deal. I got back into bed and an hour or so later, I heard a strange noise and then more crying. I opened her door and there she was, standing behind a puddle of vomit. I went and found my Mom Cape that somehow allows us to do things we never thought we could do - like clean up puke that resembles shredded turkey and apples - and put it on, and got her cleaned up. After another puking episode and a couple episodes of Teletubbies, she is bouncing around like usual. I've given her some crackers and now I'm hoping for the best.

Normally since it's the weekend, Joe would be up helping me, because he's a good dad like that, but he has a job to help his boss with at midnight tonight. They're working on remodeling bathrooms at a Buffalo Wild Wings around here and can't work till after they close. It should take awhile and then he has to work all day Monday, so I'm letting him sleep. We stayed up way too late last night, him watching some space movie and me addressing envelopes for the girls' birthday parties.

I still haven't decided for sure what their themes are going to be for their parties. The only definitive thing is that Camryn is going to have a really big cake, part of which she'll get all to herself, and Summer is going to have a lot of cupcakes that spell out Happy Second Birthday Summer instead of a cake. Y'know, I'm getting sick of people saying, "You don't need a theme, they won't remember it anyway." Duh - we all know it's more for the parents than the kids at these ages ;)

I better go check on Summer's beloved doll. Doll got thrown up on and had to take a bath. Summer doesn't quite understand and is now howling for her. I may be back later to add some recent pictures!

One of those times

Yes, that's Camryn with chocolate all over herself and her crib!

Summer has been in a toddler bed since she was 19 months old. We haven't had a problem with her getting out of bed and leaving her room until very recently. We had been planning on getting doorknob covers so that she can't leave her room and get into things while we're asleep, but hadn't gotten to the store to get them yet.

I had made rice crispy treats with pieces of Dove chocolate in them for my aunt's 4th of July party. When we got home that night, I set the leftovers on the counter and we all went to bed. The following morning, Summer came into our room, carrying a rice krispy treat. Joe got up and went into their room, only to find that she had shared it with her sister as well! As sweet as that was, obviously Camryn could have choked on it, so we got the doorknob covers at Target that day.

As potentially dangerous and messy as it was, it was one of life's moments where I had to laugh instead of yell.

Here's the deal

Let's see... where do I start? Joe and I are doing great. The kids are doing great. Summer talks all the time. You have to decipher a lot of what she says still, but she gets her point across. Camryn isn't walking yet but she can stand up on her own. She claps, points, and tries to repeat everything we say. So far, she says "dog", "bye-bye", "up", "mama", "dada", and several other things that we can't quite understand. They both have birthdays next month! I can't quite believe it. I was looking at party stuff on Orientaltrading.com earlier. Summer's favorite show, as odd as it is, is The Doodlebops. There's a Doodlebops party set on there, I'm hoping I can get it for her. It comes complete with rock star tattoos and guitar pic necklaces that I'll make everyone put on at the party. I think we're having her party at a local park, and Camryn's first b-day party we'll have here at our house.

After much debate, we moved from our apartment into my Grandmother's house this past May. She is still alive, in a nursing home with really bad Alzheimer's, but obviously won't be living at home any longer. The house has been in the family ever since my mom's family moved to Louisville 50 years ago, so they aren't really wanting to sell it just yet. They'll need to sell it in a year or two to pay for the nursing home, but until then, they offered to let Joe and I rent it. We're getting a great deal, and we're saving as much as we can to put towards buying a house when we move from here. The house is your basic 3 bedroom 1 bath from the 50's. Not that big but there is a decent kitchen and living room, and a basement. We also have a great back yard here that is right next to a big field. The other day we saw six red-tailed foxes playing in it! The neighbors all seem really nice as well. There are tons of families with lots of kids all over the place.

Joe is working at a plumbing company right now. We're undecided as to if he's going to stay in the plumbing trade or not, but for now, he's at a good place making decent money.

My current ambition right now is to take online college classes either this fall or spring. I want to take them from a reputable college in the area, either University of Louisville, or the local community college. I will probably take the basic classes from the community college, and then transfer to U of L when I decide what my major will be. I want to take the online classes so that I can still be here for the kids and work around their nap schedules and after they're in bed, although I'm sure at some point there will be classes I'll need to go to campus for. I don't know for sure what career path I'd like to take, but I want to take advantage of being at home and not working full time right now. I want to get a degree before the kids are in school, so that I can get a good job then, and not have to worry about starting school in my mid-20's and taking forever to get a good career going. Later on I think I'm going to pull up our tax info and fill out a FAFSA, I'm thinking that's the first step.

The girls are napping right now but it's getting late so I'd better go start dinner before they wake up. We're having baked chicken and brussel sprouts. Yum!

Have a lovely evening,
Steph

I'm baaaack

Hey guys. I know I have been MIA for way too long and I really miss sharing my life with you all. Things have been so busy around here, I guess blogging was one of the things that I sacrificed. But, things are settling down and I really want to get back into it.

I don't know how you all feel about me blogging here instead of AOL but I really felt like I needed a change. There's so much more you can do with your blogs here, as well. I hope you guys can save this under your favorites or add me to your blogroll (is that what they're called??) and leave me comments :)

Most of the people I have invited to read this already know plenty about me but for those who are new:

I am 21 years old. Pretty young but I try not to act it :) I live in Louisville, Kentucky, and have been here all of my life. It's a great place to live.

I have a wonderful husband, Joe. He's what one would consider the ideal candidate to spend their life with. He's totally adorable, a hard worker, and actually likes me and the kids. He changes diapers, need I say more?

Then there's the little ones. I have a 23-month-old, Summer, and an 11-month-old, Camryn. They are the cutest and smartest little girls in the world, of course.

I'm a young mom, trying to be the best person I can be. Most of my friends are in college, partying their student loans away . I am at home, cooking dinner, making bottles, and watching The Doodlebops. I wouldn't change it for the world.
